Posted this on Facebook quite a while back.
But I had an invincible series of mad dreams that reminded me of this. Or pretty much I dreamt of this in my own context with my own characters.
Mad love.

Light painting at its coolest!
Couldn’t find the very very first one I saw. It got first in some Japanese Animation Festival. I just didn’t dig hard enough. They’ve made so many pieces during this gap that I didn’t pay attention to them. Hahaha.
Enjoy.

Can’t be happier that White has arrived, I just need to meet Ken now to finally read it in peace.
Can’t be happier that Norwegian Wood is finally released in Japan. Can’t wait for the Singapore release.
But Sam says it’s too RA. But I do agree, the novel had quite a number of not too significant sex scenes. I had been wondering what really was the point. No, no sarcasm here, I was truly wondering. Their mental anarchy?
The cast looks beautiful. The trailer looks serene. It really felt like the book for this 1minute and 33 seconds.
Dear Jasmin,
Please finish the book soon so I may have a chance of reading it again before I watch.
Yours truly.

Fascination by bright lights. The use of long exposure seems to always work for me. Anyhow this reminded me of Bladerunner and Chungking Express combined. Never a photography expert, I won’t talk of that and shame myself any further.
City lights never fail me. Anything at all, about the city, whispers to me quite pretty intimately.
Anyway, I have been fighting insomnia.
This has been sensual.

Please check out the Daft Punk most recent shot in Dazed & Confused. MY GOSH! Applause everyone!
I wish I am a robot so I can be friends with them.
Anyway, WHAT’S SO INCREDIBLE ABOUT THESE! THEY’RE IN FUCKING 3D! Okay fine, 3D is the current fad, and it’s not even that crazy hightech but it is just so apt for the electro-pop duo. I can’t fucking wait for Tron. This shoot is disco-dope. LOVE IT!
No gimmicks. Nothing oddly fancy. Just funky-disco-good-shit. Can’t wait.

<錯乱>,良い映画です。。。
Such a pretty film. Sakuran. Based on the manga by Moyoco Anno. This film is a directorial debut for Mika Ninagawa. The first few things that you may notice, she probably is of photography background. Pretty much, this film reminds me so much of Sofiea Coppola’s Marie Antoinette. Probably a funky take on Memoirs of the Geisha. Personally I feel this film is a lot stronger than the other two. Love the crazy high exposed colors in the film to accentuate the vibrancy of pleasure quarters and courtesans.
I randomly saw this movie on a related link while watching Frozen Flower. Pretty much the colors caught my eye in that lil preview picture of related links. Haha. I googled and found Shiina Ringo’s Heisei Fuuzoku is the OST for this film. Ah, do I need to explain any further? Shiina Ringo is one the greatest love in my life. Ah. She’s the music producer for this film.
The film doesn’t give much insight to these women or men or culture, not like the way Memoirs tried. Everything is raw. The script might be a lil bland. The characters just explodes the story in your face. It’s flamboyant, it’s crazy, it’s all about rebellion. Maybe the only stereotype character in there was Oiran, the typical bitch that held great tension between her and Kiyoha. And well, she’s still tied down by her love for a poor nonchalent artist that can’t afford to buy her out. D: Side note, I LOVE ALL THE FISHBOWLS IN THE SHOW!
Moonlight. Come on fly. I really love this soundtrack.
I absolutely love the costumes in the film. The crazy patterns, the crazy colors. And the set, I wish I own a brothel too. This is like an extended pop video. Please just watch it.
I like the quiet silence in the film. When I expected Ringo’s electro beat to come in any moment now, it just doesn’t.
Come put your lips next to mine.

national noh theatre, yokohama, japan
Noh is more than a dance. It is about fluid movements. It is about expressing from the inside. The concept of having it all stylized, it’s not just about the brief gestures, it is a lot on technique and attitude.
And it got me thinking, what is the function of theatre? Is it meant to be seen or there is some sort of fulfillment by the performers themselves. This thought struck me when I was at the Noh lecture in NAFA last week when he said that a french man commented that Noh is so boring! And many members of the audience do fall asleep during performance. And so if it’s not exactly all out there meant to entertain, what else can there be? Yes I agree it is a highly regarded art form meant to be appreciated. But it is not blatant, most people, even Japanese themselves would not be able to understand if they are to watch a Noh performance for the first time.
On another note, on the stage, there is no gender; only characters. I feel it even more for Noh. I video-ed one of the actor’s transformation into a female character. So now really, how can I determine what’s female and male on stage?
Some googled shots. I was too far away from the stage to take any good ones from last week’s lecture. But I did take some interesting videos that I wish to make into some sort of booklog. Stay tune.

I love the use of masks. But who said there can only be one expression? That’s the beauty of Noh for me, the whole idea of stylization, to the smallest details. Do note that masks are not always used, but there are a highlight definitely.
Poster design for the Noh Theatre. A lil too lazy to crop, my photoshop is taking far too long these days. D:
This idea of making the old new. Some Noh-inspired performance of Kamenashi Kazuya during a concert.
I do ponder, is that good or bad? To abstract some sort of heritage or culture and make it commercialized for the popular culture. I won’t diss it I guess, as long as it does not make a fool out of the good ole history of it! Or if it does work in getting the masses to look and get interested again. But Mister Kamenashi does look very good in the kimono, yes?
All geared up for the final semester. Oh and I’m curious, why are there so many mixi referrers to my blog? Haha.
